    Tubes vs Transistors

Lots of Bull on both sides of this issue.

I offer that what is important is that the output tracks with the input.
[except for those electric guitar folk who want the original distortion in the music]

to that end, keeping the parts in the linear section of their operating curve is the goal.

transformers with their hysteresis losses and caps with their inherent RC shift are sources of trouble.

it follows that the best results are transformer-less, direct coupled, and "crown like" where the power supply caps are not part of the audio return path.

just harder to do with tubes

Bah! Talk about stacking the deck!

Buy some of both, switch them in and out, out and in when you feel like it.

actually I was thing of building an OTL 4x6CA7s with a floating power supply

using each half in a cascode arrangement

1/2 being driven 1/2 the artificial center

[just as an exercise as my hearing is as old as I am]

You've never listened to a pair of properly operating 1569's through a pair of Model 17's, have you?

My solution as well! I mark the seasons with the change of amplifier technologies. Solid state in the summer and the warm glow of tubes in the winter.
    I used to be known as "AltecFan" but now I'm "Altec19" . . .

I used to keep my Dyna Mk III's at the foot of the bed...helped keep my feet warm.
Your neighbors called. They like your music.
